During the late 1990s and into the early 2000s, the WOMAD festival took place In Redmond, Washington’s Marymoor Park, not far from Seattle.
The 1982 debut of the World of Music Art and Dance (WOMAD) festival was greatly influenced by Peter Gabriel’s admiration of music from other cultures. With the exception of a brief tour of one-day mini-festivals in 1993 and this four-year tour beginning in 1998, WOMAD had never established itself in the United States. Since then, there have been regular festivals in a number of locations throughout Europe, Africa, and Asia.
